Amazon brand defense: how to stop competitors taking your shoppers
Competitors can buy the top of the page when shoppers search your brand, and the ad slots on your own product pages. How to see where it's happening and decide when to defend.

Where brands lose shoppers they already won
A shopper who types your brand name into Amazon has already decided they want you. Yet on many branded searches the first thing they see is a competitor: the Sponsored Brands banner, the first row of Sponsored Products, or a video ad. The same happens on your product pages, where the "Products related to this item" carousels are full of other brands.
There are two places to watch:
- Branded search results — who owns the banner and the ad slots when shoppers search your name.
- Your product detail pages — how many of the sponsored slots on your own listings show other brands.
1. Watch the Sponsored Brands banner on your brand terms
The banner above the search results is the most valuable spot on the page. Track who wins it on every branded keyword, several times a day. A banner win rate — the share of scans where the banner is yours — tells you if a competitor is consistently outbidding you or only shows up at certain times of day when your budget has run out.
2. Count the competitor ads on your branded searches
Beyond the banner, count how many Sponsored Products slots on your branded results belong to other brands. Your brand defense rate is your share of all ads on those searches. A falling rate usually means a new competitor has started a conquesting campaign on your name.
3. Audit the ad slots on your own product pages
Every sponsored slot on your listing that shows another brand is a chance for a shopper to leave. Measuring product page defense — your share of the sponsored slots on your own pages — shows which listings are most exposed and which competitors target them.
When is defending worth the money?
- Defend when a competitor holds the banner or the first ad row on your brand name often — those shoppers are the easiest to lose.
- Defend your best sellers' pages first; a few listings usually carry most of the revenue.
- Don't overpay where you already hold the banner and organic top spots and no one else is bidding. Watch the trend instead, and react when a competitor appears.
Tracking it without checking by hand
Results change through the day and by location, so a single manual search is misleading. YourSOV scans your branded keywords and product pages twice a day from a real US location and reports your banner win rate, brand defense rate and product page defense — and names the brands advertising against you.
